Our Staff
Universal Engineering employs a staff of nearly 40 skilled in all facets of Engineering. The key members of staff are listed below.
Graham Mackey
B.Sc., C.Eng., M.I.Mech.E., M.IPENZ., C.Dip.A.F.,. Managing Director / Technical Director.
Graham has worked both in NZ and the UK and has over 30 years experience in the fabrication Industry. This has included working on all sides of the fence including being the Client, a Consultant and working in the manufacturing Sector. This experience gives a good range of experience in both the theoretical and practical aspects of design and fabrication.
Phil Matthews
NZCE. Director.
Phil started life as an apprentice Fabricator and followed this through to being a Qualified Tradesman. Once this mile stone was achieved Phil went to Wellington where he studied for, and achieved a New Zealand Certificate in Engineering. In all Phil has spent over 15 Years in the Engineering Industry in both Gisborne and Wellington.
Brian Lamb
Design / Project Engineer
Brian has a formal Engineering background and holds a Diploma in Engineering.
He has a background in the Farming and Timber Processing Areas having owned and operated a farming / Timber Processing facility in Zimbabwe. Many of the machines used in this operation were either made or modified by Brian
Todd Allen
Production Manager
Todd comes from a shop floor background having followed a full Apprenticeship in Engineering. Todd has extensive experience in Heavy Fabrication and Stainless Steel / Sheet Metal. He has move through the ranks of various companies into his current roll as Production Manager at Universal Engineering. Having been in the Shop Floor environment all his life Todd’s experience compliments the Design and Technical backgrounds of some of the other members in the Team.
Horst Schreiber
Machine Shop Supervisor.
Horst was trained in Germany and is a Qualified Machinist with over 30 Years experience in the Industry. Since his arrival in NZ in 1995 Horst has proved to be a very competent Tradesman with the Traditional accuracy usually associated with German Engineering. Horst has carried out machining on many of the Design Projects undertaken by Universal Engineering.
Matt Laing.
Sheet Metal Supervisor.
Matt is a Qualified Tradesman with a vast experience in all facets of the trade. Matt has worked in several parts of New Zealand gaining experience and knowledge of different products and processes.
Brian Mabey
Structural Supervisor.
Brian is a Qualified Tradesmen with over 30 years experience. Brian has a strong attitude for Heavy Fabrication and Structures and has supervised many large Structural Projects for Universal Engineering ranging from small portal sheds to large multi story buildings.
Rama Te-are
Workshop Supervisor
Rama is a Tradesman with over 10 years experience. Rama has been involved in many Projects in Gisborne and Auckland, and brings an enthusiastic and committed approach to the team.
Steve Vizzi
Senior Mechanical Fabricator.
Steve has over 20 Years experience of Building Mechanical Machines and Structures and take’s a lead roll in the Installation and Manufacture of Universal’s Design and Build Equipment.
